Heaven Sent

A single drop of rainfall sent
from heaven, miles away,
does not know to where it goes
or role in life it plays.

It may arrive unnoticed in
a mist upon the sea,
or be the only source of hope
a desert flower sees.

In either case it only is
just what it always was.
It’s value changed by only chance,
no matter what it does.

So if your heart’s been torn apart,
stand tall and don’t lament.
Stay true to who you really are,
you’re someone’s “heaven sent.”

  3. Jane says:

when you get hit by a hailball is it sent from hell?

  4. Bill says:

My goodness…I had no idea who we were “pallin’ around with!”

You write poetry? I had no idea. I liked it. Keep it up.

  5. esarsea says:

Thanks Bill. I do enjoy it, but I often find that my poetry is too structured. To me, that makes it too rigid, cold and stand-offish. For example, I get hung up in syllable counts:

    Da-ta-da,
    Da-to-da,
    Da-ta-da-ta-da.

    Da-ta-da,
    Da-ta-da,
    Da-ta-da-ta-da.

When that happens I catch myself trying to find words to fit the pattern, rather than going with the emotion and feeling I want to express. I really admire poets who can write something that doesn’t necessarily rhyme or conform to a pattern, and yet still reads as poetry rather than prose.

  6. Jane says:

yeah i can’t get past needing to rhyme myself…
