Hugo Chavez and Pravda…… what have THEY been up to?

June 19, 2009 by torqdog

images (WinCE)Seems like both have had opinions as to where we are headed with this new regime that lives in the White house now.

Pravda, the old propaganda rag of the Soviet Union published an article a couple weeks ago entitled “American Capitalism, Gone with a Wimper”. In this article the author lays out the groundwork for how we are racing towards a socialistic society. If anyone ought to know about the perils of such a system, it’s the Russians. A warning, Pravda has taken on a look similar to that of the National Enquirer. Lots of scantily clad females and mail order brides as well. That factor does NOT diminish the seriousness of this article. Even the Enquirer gets it right on occasion.

It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.

OK so your getting an idea as to where we’re going here…… RIGHT!

Enter Hugo Chavez……. known socialist thug from Venezuela and personal friend of Sean Penn. He has also been quite surprised as to where we are going as witnessed by these remarks to pal Fidel Castro;

CARACAS (Reuters) – Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez said on Tuesday that he and Cuban ally Fidel Castro risk being more conservative than U.S. President Barack Obama as Washington prepares to take control of General Motors Corp.

During one of Chavez’s customary lectures on the “curse” of capitalism and the bonanzas of socialism, the Venezuelan leader made reference to GM’s bankruptcy filing, which is expected to give the U.S. government a 60 percent stake in the 100-year-old former symbol of American might.

“Hey, Obama has just nationalized nothing more and nothing less than General Motors. Comrade Obama! Fidel, careful or we are going to end up to his right,” Chavez joked on a live television broadcast.

So now you see……. known socialists in the world see where we are headed….. DO YOU?

Sooooooooo….. like-a, whatsa your point and what does any of that have to do with what Hugo Chavez actually SAID!!!!!?

    • torqdog says:

Kind of surprising seeing MSNBC with seven mentions. Were they only mentioning the word socialism in one of their many hit pieces against FOX news? Wouldn’t surprise me in the least since FOX is their main focus anymore. Maybe their ratings would go up if Mr. “thrill running up my leg everytime I hear him speak” Chris Matthews started doing some actual reporting. Wasn’t he also the guy who said something to the effect of wanting to see to it and would do anything in his power to insure that Obama succeeds, shortly after the election? He wasn’t the only one at MSNBC pledging this kind of support. And you continue to bring FOX into just about any discussion critical of this administration trying to justify your perception that THEIR biases are unmatched? FOX’s fingerprints weren’t even on either of those two articles…… one being from Pravda and the other from Reuters.

      Give me a break!

Now, let’s see if we can actually have a discussion about an issue rather than what we already know is your dislike of FOX news.

That Pravda blog/website makes for an interesting read. I surfed around for a while and read a number of articles. What a trip!

  3. bill says:

So, a guy who Republicans revile as an insane dictator and threat to the hemisphere (friend of…oh,no! Castro!) and Pravada (means Truth in Russian…I took two years of Russian in junior high in preparation to become a socialist) the historically acknowledged totally “owned” mouthpiece of the Russian government tell the world that we are headed down the road the Marxist Hell…and it fits into a convenient Red Scare, so it must be true!

You realize that you are agreeing and supporting the babbling of enemies of our country just so you can dump more shit on our “regime?”

Nice work. What’s next, citing Al Qaeda on minority health care issues or Mein Kampf on infant democracies?

    • torqdog says:

Bill, sorry you see it that way. All I was doing was pointing out the “sweet irony” of how a know socialist thug dictator is complainig or musing about finding himself to the right of Obama. Nothing more! Don’t get yourself too excited or worked up to the prospects that conservatives are suddenly seeing Chavez as a friend. It’s unlikely that anything he says will find it’s way into my repertoire unless it again shows some sort of “sweet irony”

And is it Pravada or Pravda?

  4. Stu says:

The “Red Scare Index” comes from, who’s online solicitation for contributions includes the mantra, “Help Up Fight Conservative Misinformation.”

I think Bill’s post directly responds to what was written about Chavez’s comments and the Pravda piece. It’s clear to me that Bill is saying that this information is just that – conservative misinformation.

I fall somewhere in the middle. Chavez said what he said. His comments are going to be seen as newsworthy by those opposing Obama, and they are going to be summarily dismissed by his supporters. No brainer. To me it’s just interesting to read Chavez’s comments, and gain some insight as to Chavez’s opinions about the direction we’re going – assuming he was quoted accurately and in context.

A little different but still the same thing with the Pravda piece. It’s a propaganda publication with an agenda. Even so, I think it’s of value to learn how we’re being viewed and written about. Nothing more, nothing less.

I hope we do not let the BS BLOG become just another platform for arguing the same old stuff I hear every day on the radio. I’m growing weary of it. There’s an abundance of those blogs. I’d like to keep it fresh, fun and interesting here.

  5. bill says:

I’m with you. I’d like to give the politifcal thing a rest. It’s just not that fun or interesting. The campaign made me sick and now, it’s easier to just skim the blogs and not have to re-think and re-write the stuff.

I caught myself toying with the idea of sinling out a politician from either side of the aisle, once a week, for something stupid they said or did and then thought,”Why? You can’t stand the current trends in American politics from Republicans or Democrats, so why bother?”

Actually, the Red Scare index didn’t come from MMFA, but from Think Progress, another “left-of-center” site. I like them because they present what was actually said, not what someone says they meant, but were quoted “out of context.” Kinda hard to make the “context” argument when they are using actual radio and tv clips of you saying it!

Let’s spread it out a bit from here forward. This isn’t really a political blog, either. It’s just supposed to be for fun and I ain’t havin’ any!

  6. Stu says:

Mediamatters must have borrowed it from MMFA or vice-versa. They run it daily I think

  7. bill says:

Should have said that MMFA makes availalbe the actual clips from radio or tv, not Think Progress. Think Progress does reporting and MMFA is a news compiler, bit of a different animal. They may be sharing statistical stuff like the Red Scare index.

    • torqdog says:

Alright, alright……. I get it! Some of us here are getting a little burnt out on things political. Fine!

Bill, I do find it interesting that you are suddenly not havin any fun. I went back and took a tally of threads you have started in the past few months and a majority of them could be considered political. Not sure what to make of that but it is what it is. I have noticed you haven’t really been “on your game” recently as evidenced by your reponses. Lately it seems that your instantaneous reaction has been to either bash FOX, cut and paste daily kos or media matters material or just plain give in to the sound of crickets. It has dawned upon me that I may have some responsibility to share. I didn’t realize you were being affected the way you were. If I did I might have refrained from starting some of those threads.

In the future, I will try my hardest (a REAL tough assignment) to refrain from posting things political until I see that it has again become fair game.

      This is my “final word”!

  8. bill says:

Randy, I think I made a statement months ago that this all played out during the 08 campaign and that I was sick of it by inauguration time. From both sides.

I appreciate your critique of my posting style.

When I put together a post about what a douche bag John Ensign or Newt Gingrich is and I detail why, it isn’t a Republican vs. Democrat thing. They are douche bags. Period. Bill Clinton was a douche bag in the end. He may have been all along for all I know. Fox News was a douche bag for highjacking the Libertarian-created Tea Parties and turning them into a Republican Anti-Obama movement. And on and on.

Here’s the point to much of what I say here: Obama won the election because we tried the other way for years and it not only didn’t work, it ended in disaster. Those voices that are out there blindly attacking everything this man does or says are the worst kind of sore losers. And, like conservatives who were upset with Bush’s critics, I wonder about the patriotism of those who blindly attack our elected leader during a time of war (2 of them, really). But the point, again, is that “they” lost.

But I digress. This blog was created to have some fun. There are politicial web sites all over where you can log in and let it rip.

What I think would be good is if we can all have an opinion about current events that are important to everyone without degenerating into name-calling or neglecting to provide research or appropriate sourcing to confirm a story’s topic.

I’m not going to shy away from a thread that may contain some political or religious core values at work, but I would rather share stuff that’s a bit lighter on the heart and mind.

You may have other beliefs and leanings, but you are not my enemy and I don’t enjoy arguing along partisan political lines. I understand many of your apparent conservative concerns.

After all, we bloggers don’t get paid nearly as well as the politicians, lobbyists and pundits who go after this shit 24/7.

    • torqdog says:

That was beautiful Bill. Kudos and I now have a little better understanding as to where you are coming from.

      Thanks for that, Bro!

      • torqdog says:

Oh…. and I just noticed I lied! I said that my previous statement from this afternoon was “my last word”. I guess it’s hard for me to just STFU!

        Sorry! :-)
