Oh So True!

I found this quote the other day and man, is it ever fitting in todays political discussions.

“You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”

Adrian Rogers, 1931

I will add that this concept of how many pay and how many receive is crucial in the survival of this country. When the tipping point is achieved with receivers outnumbering payers, elections will become simple referendums and the receivers will rule. Tyranny will result as we all look to Government for security.

How close are we to that tipping point? I would argue that we’re too close for comfort!

……..” he gives a voice and speaks to all the pissed-off, frustrated white people in America who share his race-based views that minorities are lazy, unlawful, entitled people who want to suck off the rest of us and it will eventually result in the downfall of decent, hardworking society.

Kind of along the lines of your post of the guy with a carboard “Fuck You” sign.”

Bill…… answer me this, are there ANY social programs you disapprove of? Whether there are or not, the premise of this thread is when do we reach the tipping point of no return. I could give a rats ass as to whether the afflicted are White, Black, Brown, Yellow, Purple, Green, Red or are Rainbow lepers. Bottom line is that there is a finite quantity to the amount of funds available for helping these people or ANY govt. funded program which also would include the military. Where is that money gonna come from for all those helpful “hand ups”? Especially when you take into account that humans are lazy in nature and if the opportunity exists to feed that laziness, they will come to the trough.

Seems as though almost EVERY Govt. program is, for one reason or another, going broke. The latest revelation is the Post Office with the announcement of hundreds of branches closing soon. The Govt. DOES NOT run things well in the vacuum of real competition.

So tell me, what would be your solution if you were President? You want to keep and expand the Government’s social largess…….. how ya gonna pay for it Bro? How are you going to make all things Govt. run efficiently, with minimal beaurocracy in that vacuum of a real competitive force with each one of these progameteers coming to you whining that cutting back on that automatic 5% annual funding increase is really “slashing” their budget and millions of the down-on-their-luck folks will suffer as a result?

    What would Billie do?

  2. bill says:

Fisrt, Billie would regulate banking and Wall Street. Billie would do what Bill Clinton did in reforming welfare and give people who needed the temporary help a time limit to eliminate generational welfare culture. Billie would not let mortgage companies and banks make loans to people who clearly can’t really afford it. Billie would not start wars in countries that pose no real threat to us while the war we should be fighting languishes until the enemy rebuilds in our absence. Billie would not give tax breaks to corporations and the wealthiest 5% among us. Billie would restrict investor speculation.

Now, this is all fine and well for hindsight discussion. The facts are that the keys were handed to Obama while the car was going over the cliff, not while it was sitting in the lot. I do not like every governement social program, particularly any that can be manipulated and abused.

So, I would start with eliminating the biggest welfare fraud: corporate tax shelters and codes. Trickle down done trickled down and here we are.
