6 Days And Counting!

The above photo is from Georgia Roessler’s Las Vegas PBase Gallery. Lots of great photos from a slightly different perspective than your average tourist shots. Check it out!

This coming Sunday, August 16th, Mary-Anne and I depart for our favorite vacation destination – Las Vegas, NV. We scored quite a good deal this year.

A few months ago I received an email offer for 3 free nights at Mandalay Bay, a 5 Star Resort Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas. We have stayed there before and really liked it, so we thought we’d take them up on the offer. When I called the promotions desk I received not only the 3 free nights, but also a nice discount for 3 additional nights.

I then got online and checked airfare with Southwest Airlines. It was far enough in advance to get some real good rates on non-stop flights from Seattle. When it was all done I managed to get us 6 nights at a 5-Star Resort and round-trip airfare for 2 for $750 all-in (after taxes, fees and everything).

We also picked up a couple dinner/show tickets for The Rat Pack Is Back, a tribute show to the Legendary Rat Pack. Click the link above for show info and a promotional video. Looks like a lot of fun!

I’ll be playing in a few no limit Texas Hold’em tournaments, and probably some no-limit cash games as well. Mary-Anne prefers the slots, although this year she might play a tournament or 2 herself. She does fairly decent online, but she still finds live games a little intimidating.

Hopefully we’ll get a change to catch up with Carl Ferris on Fremont Street again this year.

There’s nothing like a week in Sin City to recharge the batteries. Sunday can’t get here soon enough!

Well, here in Utah, all the Mormons go to Vegas to play ’cause what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, supposedly.

Like one of your automatically generated links says, between the housing market bust in Vegas and the economy in general, visitors have dropped off rather sharply and there are deals to be had.

Why, a good friend was just there last week and blow jobs are cheaper than a haircut!

That’s funny shiat there Bill…… blowjobs cheaper than a haircut. :-)

Speaking of the economy in general here in Nevada……. a few years ago Arnie came to L.V. with a Bus that he drove down the L.V. strip. It was a stunt showing how California wanted all those businesses and folks back that had escaped. Today, I heard on the local news that Nevada is running an ad campaign in California trying to woo back some of those disenfranchised Californians. It must be good business for the moving companies anyway.

Stu, have fun in L.V. I don’t go there because I don’t gamble but it is a fun place to go if you do. Even if you don’t, there is a ton of stuff to keep you entertained for …….. longer than you’ll be there.

Let me know when your flight leaves so I can sit outside and wave as you pass overhead. :-)

    I, too, am a Not-A-Gambler.

Why, the last time I was in a casino, I was with Stu and Mary-Anne, watching them feverishly pumping pennies into slots in Reno.

Probably won a bunch of money because unlike me, Stu actually wins when he gambles.

That was the first and last time all 3 of us were together – Bill, Randy and I at that JB show at the Hilton. Little did we know at the time that we could have been the opening act :-)

It was a lot of fun meeting Bill at the Atlantis in Reno. Watching Jack Benny, I mean Brother Bill begrudgingly drop a few coins into a video poker machine was entertaining in it’s own right!

Yeah Stu and Bill. That was a magical couple of shows for me. 1st off meeting you two and others from the forum as well as that was the same day as my B-day. Whadda present. I have photos from the event, in fact, Bill is in one photo of my screen saver rotating photo compilation. Check your e-mails as I have sent the only photo known to exist of Bill at the concert.

Not only was it free and was just a hop, skip and a jump from my house, but it was back shortly after Joe had come out with that blazin bonus DVD from Ft Wayne, still to this day, my favorite offering Joe has delivered.

      Good times had by all!

Yeah, those penny slots are no money saver. They must have 90 different ways to win and if you don’t go “full price”, you might miss out on that super jackpot that would see you “movin-on-up”. I think last time I was with someone who gambles and they were pumpin pennies, it was 1.80 each round to have a full chance at the dance.

Slot machines don’t interest me anymore. I didn’t mind dumping a roll or two of quarters back in the days when everything was mechanical and you actually had a lever to pull. Now-a-days, it’s all digital and it seems each machine has 50 games and a hundred ways to take your money.

I guess maybe I’m getting to that crusty curmudgeon stage in life when nostalgic things from the past make me smile and new technologies with their accompaning 2 inch thick manuals don’t really interest me much. :-)

i don’t have any real interest to go to vegas but i remembered these little plastic slot machine toys i had when i was little and was able to score some on ebay for the kid’s Christmas stockign once. that was neat to be able to find them. stupid little toy but anyway
    good luck Stu

  7. Da Goddess says:

You’ll have a good time, Stu. Everyone’s so hungry for your business in Vegas that they’ll throw in the kitchen sink if you show up for more than ten minutes (good inside source on that one). Of course, that may be where I end up in the next month or two, so in the future, all you’d have to do is let me know when…

  8. Stu says:

Sun 8/16 07:20, leaving for the airport in about 15 minutes. Take care of the place :-) and we’ll talk to you sometime on the 24th or after.
