Run, Willy, Run! The Christians are coming!

March 4, 2010 by billie789

The American Family Association, a religious right group, is urging that Tilikum (Tilly), the killer whale that killed a trainer at SeaWorld Orlando, be put down, preferably by stoning. Citing Tilly’s history of violent altercations, the group is slamming the park for not listening to Scripture in how to deal with the animal.

“WTF? They want to stone me!”

The American Family Association, the powerful right-wing Christian political organization, blogged that, “If the counsel of the Judeo-Christian tradition had been followed,” Beancheau (the trainer)would have never died. AFA blogger Bryan Fischer reasoned that according to Exodus, an animal like Tilikum should have been stoned back in 1991, and if biblical law were to be followed, the owners of Tilikum should be put to death:

“Chalk another death up to animal rights insanity and to the ongoing failure of the West to take counsel on practical matters from the Scripture. […] So, your animal kills somebody, your moral responsibility is to put that animal to death. You have no moral culpability in the death, because you didn’t know the animal was going to go postal on somebody. But, the Scripture soberly warns, if one of your animals kills a second time because you didn’t kill it after it claimed its first human victim, this time you die right along with your animal. To use the example from Exodus, if your ox kills a second time, “the ox shall be stoned, and its owner also shall be put to death.” (Exodus 21:29)

American Family Association member attempting to “boulder” an orca for worshipping a false god, clearly a Bibilical violation.

AFA sniper shoots at orca with a rock-loaded slingshot. The orca was reported by AFA scouts to have looked back at Sea World as it escaped into the wild, another violation (Lot’s wife) of Biblical references

So is this blogger calling for a religious Jihad against Tilly and all other animals that have killed? And from the photos it appears that Tilly goes out in public without wearing a Burka…… STONE the Bitch….. uh, I mean Beast!!! Oooops, sorry. Wrong crazy religion.

Now if Tilly is a Killer Whale that has killed three times, does that make her a killer, killer, killer……. Killer Whale? And if she’s real popular and groovy and stuff does that make her a killer, killer, killer….. “killer”, Killer Whale?

Just killing time here folks ;-)

Well, we named them “killers.” They are big dolphins, really.

The story is that not only do these people believe the dolphin should be stoned to death, but the “owners” need to be stoned now for not heeding the stoning intructions from Exodus the first time Tilly was involved in a death. I don’t know if that means the entire staff or just the minority janitors or just the teen-aged girls who run the snack bar.

One of the deaths was a guy who sneaked in at night and jumped in the pool, probably drunk. Or stoned, but not in the “Bibilical sense” (those are two words you don’t hear together very often). The next morning they found his naked, dead body draped over the top of Tilly, who apparently thought he was a toy and stripped his clothes completely off, played a little too hard with its new toy and carried it around for hours afterwards.

I’d say this group needs to be placed on the domestic terror Watch List.

Got a link to this article? I visited the AFA website and couldn’t find it. I’m curious to see if this is an official position of AFA or just some comment posted by a zealot?

  4. Bill says:

Looks like the automatically generated posts link to the story.

(There’s a Google ad that keeps popping into this post.WTF?)

This isn’t a story about religion. It’s a story about stupidity.

Here’s a link to the story, which also contains a follow-up post from the author:

So, he didn’t really mean it? Oh, good. I guess we all just misunderstood…The London Daily Mail, Chicago Tribune, etc.

His equating euthanizing a pit bull for attacking the neighbor kids to a 12,000 pound mammal that was raised in a gold fish bowl tells me a lot. The pit bull bites because of its breed tendencies and owners who make them mean. Tilly and others don’t roam the neighborhood looking for people to kill because their owners are irresponsible jerks.

He still sounds like a f*cking nut cake to me.

I agree that it wasn’t the best analogy for him to use, to support his argument that Tilly should be put down. At the same time, I don’t for a minute believe he’s a spokesperson for the AFA.

It opens an interesting discussion about wild animals in captivity. If a zoo lion kills it’s keeper, should it be put down? What about a gorilla or bear? The whole thing makes me question the value vs. ethics of places like Seaworld or Marineland or zoos in general.

  8. Bill says:

Yeah, well, I get nervous with anyone who uses Bible verses to make their point. At this point in history, it’s safe to say that like statistics, you can make the Bible say anything you want. Any p[oinbt of view can be bolstered by quoting or misquoting the Bible. If he’s not a spokesperson, Stu, why did they post his retort on their web site? It seems you want to distance AFA from this guy and they are posting his stuff on their site. WTF?

    • Stu says:

I dunno. He may well represent their views, but I got the impression he was just a columnist/blogger on an affiliated website…kind of like you or I speaking for each other here. I’d never heard of the AFA before your post and have no agenda either way, I just didn’t interpret his article as saying it was the AFA’s position that Tilly’s owners be put to death.

I do agree that Tilly should not be killed. Released would be better. Like you say, put a wild, predatory animal in a swimming pool for our entertainment purposes and/or profit, and then bitch when it’s given to it’s instincts?

  9. Bill says:

    “Any p[oinbt of view”…Jeebus!

Poking around over a burger at lunch, I delved deeper into their web site and they are the religious wing of Fox News, basically. You can purchase Tea Party supplies, write your Congressman to “kill Obamacare by driving a stake through its heart!” (at least they didn;t say by nailing it to a cross), rejecting gay rights out of hand, home schooling supplies, Commie scare books, etc. Deep, deep involvement in conservative political action and attitude.

But I digress…they have many authors and bloggers, so, yeah, this “The Bible said stone them, not me,”-guy is one of many AFA-endorsed bloggers, certainly not an official spokesperson.

They might be crazed mother f*$kers, but they probably wouldn’t have him as an official spokesperson.

Talk about FEAR mongers. Their home page makes you want to run to a bomb shelter, clutching your Bible, your AR-15 and 72 hours-worth of supplies.

  11. Bill says:

Found it! AFA was founded by Donald Wildmon…ring a bell? Rev Donald Wildmon who spent the 70’s threatening boycotts of television shows he deemed worthy of censorship. He believes in censoring movies, television, recordings, books and magazines.

    Described as “Extreme Right Wing.”

Television shows like Donahue, All In The Family, Wonder Years, Seinfeld, Major Dad, Roseanne, Murphy Brown, L.A. Law, Northern Exposure, and Quantum Leap.

Television dramas like Larry McMurtry’s Lonesome Dove, Maya Angelou’s Sister, Sister, Absolute Strangers, The Alison Gertz Story, and Portrait of a Rebel: Margaret Sanger.

Movies like The Last Temptation of Christ and Ghost (they did suck!)

Magazines like Playboy, Penthouse, and Sassy. (they suck, as well)

Recordings like Madonna’s Like a Prayer. (Madonna just sucks)

And, as fate would have it, he just resigned last week.
