Turn It Up Tuesday!

October 5, 2010 by esarsea

Stone The Crows were a great Scottish blues/rock band featuring Maggie Bell, who’s vocals were a soulful mix of Janice Joplin and Rod Stewart. Stone The Crows also featured Les Harvey on Guitar. Les was the younger brother of Alex Harvey (of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band). Les was tragically electrocuted on stage during a live Stone The Crows performance in 1972.

James Dewar, Stone the Crows bassist, went on to provide vocals and bass for Robin Trower during Trower’s peak years years of popularity, appearing on 5 gold records including Bridge of Sighs.

They’re OK……. just not what I’m into these days. It’s interesting that this is the band Trower’s bass player originated from. Speaking of Trower, I always found it strange that he was originally in Procol Harum. I went back and listened to much of what they did and couldn’t really hear where Trower started getting his phlanger oriented spacial sound. I guess it just happened upon him one day?
