Satriani Webcast Benefit Concert July 10th

Just a reminder, there’s a live webcast with Joe Satriani, Steve Vai & Friends on Sunday, July 10th at 8:00 pm, PDT. Special guests to include Dweezil Zappa, Brendon Small, Tony MacAlpine, Orianthi (HOT!) and more.

A note about Cliff from satriani.com;

Cliff Cultreri is the A&R executive who “discovered’ both Satriani and Vai, as well as many other popular recording artists, while working at Relativity Records. Cultreri is suffering from a host of Auto-Immune and Connective-Tissue disorders that are simultaneously attacking his immune system, a 1 in 100 million occurrence that causes severe pain and physical debilitations. In 2006, Satriani and Vai joined forces for the first Cultreri benefit show. They raised money as well as attention to the devastation this disease takes out on both the patient and their family. Satriani and Vai hope to raise even more funds with this year’s benefit to help Cultreri and his family’s financial needs.

    Most everyone here is familiar with Satriani and Vai but may not be so familiar with some of the other artists that will be playing this gig. One of them is Tony MacAlpine and here’s something he did years ago but still smokes today. I highly recommend opening these vids in their own you tube window so you can see the fingers fly. ;-)

    And then there’s Orianthi Panagaris, another hottie swingin an axe from down under. Big, big things ahead for this gal!

    That Tony MacAlpine video must be a production video and not an actual live performance. I hear a 2nd guitarist. Tehchically very good, but not a lot of soul for me. Preferred Orianthi’s more blusy feel. She can play!

    I personally love T-Mac but have been following him since day one and am very familiar with his style. His chord oriented leads are exceptional and very nicely done. I’m sure if you got into some of his music you’d find alot of soul in there.

    I sat and perused through about every Orianthi vid I could find yesterday and have come away with the feeling that we may have a new superstar guitarist in the making. Some of her original music is very pop oriented but always comes with a wailing guitar lead. But her instrumentals as witnessed on that vid are superb. Lot’s of emotion and man can she play.

    I also found this little gem that may be more reflective of what we can expect from her performance on the 10th. Again, opening this vid in a dedicated you tube window is highly recommended.

    And I just can’t help it, I’ve gotta include some pop rock here as she does a helluva good job crossing over. Orianthi has allot of appeal to more than one market.

    See, women just can’t get any respect! I started playing this bottom video and immediately and ad pops up for women’s dress sandals in 4 different styles.

    I’d just like to say that it’s all good, just some are better than others. She’s very talented, but I’m not huge on her sound and tone. I’m jaded. I admit it. PRS? Really!?! At least Vai isn’t still playing luggage with handles.

    Here’s a clip from Sunday’s show. I honestly can’t remember ever seeing so much guitar talent on one stage at the same time.

    Looks like they are having a good time. Never really been a fan of the obligatory “All Star Jam” type of performances. It’s like having too many seasonings on an otherwise great meal. Cool that they’re rockin’ some Neil Young though!

      100% agreement here Stu. The “allstar” jam thing or even two groups collaborating at show’s end (Dream Theater/Queensryche) never comes off as expected. Maybe too much of a good thing is…….. well, bad.

      Gotta love the part of this clip where early on T-Mac starts rippin and catches Joe and Steve’s attention. The looks on their faces was priceless.
