Roadside sign welcomes travelers to Aberdeen, Washington – hometown of Kurt Cobain. The city’s adopted slogan, “Come As You Are” is not only featured on this sign, but also on the City of Aberdeen’s Official Website at http://www.aberdeeninfo.com

The Flagship Band of Generation X, and a band from my backyard – Nirvana.

Nirvana (and other Seattle/Grunge bands of that era) took the country by storm in the early 90’s, supplanting corporate rock and MTV’s  “Big Hair and Spandex” bands of the day.

Enjoy, and Turn it up!

You are very correct, my bad. I have fixed it.

I don’t know a lot about Aberdeen, but it seems like it would be a tough area for kids to grow up in? Rather isolated and not a lot to do, other than go to the ocean? A friend of mine used to be the Editor of the Aberdeen Daily World years ago, and I would visit him from time to time. Other than that my only experience with Aberdeen is driving through when I’m headed to the coast.

Like him (and his music) or not, he is a bit of a cultural icon. Kurt connected with the disenchanted and angst-filled youth of the day in a way that hasn’t been seen in a long, long time.
